The Oromo Community in Scotland warmly supports asylum seekers, extending a compassionate hand to those seeking refuge and a new start. Drawing from our own experiences of displacement and integration, we are dedicated to providing practical, emotional, and social support. We offer detailed guidance on navigating the asylum process and assist with language barriers by providing translation services and English classes. We also ensure access to essential clothing, food, and hygiene products.
Understanding the complexities of the asylum process, we link asylum seekers with solicitors who can provide expert legal advice and representation. Recognising the emotional toll of seeking asylum, we organise cultural events and social gatherings to foster a sense of belonging and reduce isolation. Additionally, we host activities such as sports events, which offer a valuable opportunity for physical well-being and community bonding.
Our mental health support services, including counselling and a listening ear from trained volunteers, help individuals cope with their trauma and stress. Through mentorship programs, experienced community members offer advice and support to newcomers, helping them navigate the complexities of life in Scotland.
The Oromo Community in Scotland is committed to building an inclusive and compassionate society where asylum seekers are welcomed, supported, and empowered to rebuild their lives with dignity.
