The Oromo Community in Scotland has passionately advocated for human rights, mainly focusing on the grave situation in Ethiopia. Our diverse and heartfelt efforts aim to raise awareness, push for political action, and provide direct support to those suffering from violence and repression in Oromia.
One of the main ways we make our voices heard is by organising public protests. These demonstrations shine a light on the brutal violence inflicted by the Ethiopian government on Oromo civilians. By taking to the streets in peaceful protest, we make sure the pain and struggles of our people in Oromia are seen and heard, even from so far away.
We also work hard to engage politicians by writing letters to Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) and Members of Parliament (MPs) in the UK. In these letters, we share detailed accounts and evidence of the violence and repression our community faces, urging these officials to stand up against these human rights abuses. We aim to influence policy and encourage them to put diplomatic pressure on the Ethiopian government.
We are also deeply committed to supporting humanitarian aid for those displaced by violence in Oromia. Through a well-organized charity called the Oromo Relief Association UK, we help provide vital resources like food, shelter, medical supplies, and educational materials to those forced to flee their homes. This partnership ensures that aid reaches those who need it most, helping to alleviate immediate suffering and support long-term recovery and stability.
In everything we do, we strive to foster solidarity and unity within the Oromo diaspora. By advocating for our people, raising awareness, and providing direct support, we aim to make a real difference in the lives of those affected by the ongoing crisis in Oromia. The Oromo Community in Scotland remains dedicated to the cause of human rights and will continue to fight for justice and dignity for the Oromo people.
